St. Jude Children's Research Hospital & Delta Delta Delta - A Perpetual Bond
A Partnership Begins
Children's Cancer Charities is the focus of Tri Delta members' philanthropic efforts. The mission of these charities is to help alleviate the suffering of children with cancer. In 1999, Tri Delta members extended their philanthropic efforts to the patients and families of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Tri Deltas across the country became united in an effort to help children from all over the world afflicted with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses.
Since the partnership began, Tri Delta has funded the hospital's Teen Room by challenging members to raise $1 million over a four-year period. The Teen Room is a very special place for teenagers to relax, hang out with other teens and take a break from their parents, doctors and nurses. The Teen Room is equipped with internet, video games, stereos and other activities. In the 2005-2006 school year Tri Deltas raised the bar by raising more than $1 million for St. Jude in a single year. This donation was one of the single largest gifts given by a sorority to a charity.
Tri Delta's Continuing Commitment
Now, Tri Delta members are extending their bond worldwide by joining with St. Jude and other institutions around the world as doctors and researchers tackle pediatric brain tumors, one of the deadliest types of cancer. Tri Delta has committed to raise $10 million to fund the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor that be located in the Chili's Care Center, which is a facility dedicated to St. Jude Brain Tumor Program. This facility will allow for patients to receive more precise radiation therapy.
The Tri Delta Patient Care Floor will house 18 new inpatient rooms that allow the hospital to sustain expected growth rates foreseen over the next five years. The Tri Delta Patient Care Floor will include the building's main pharmacy, two nurses' stations, a family lounge, an educational office, another Teen Room and a child life play area. The Tri Delta Patient Care Floor proves the dedication that Tri Delta members across the country have for children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
As of May 2010, Tri Delta has reached our goal nationally of raising $10 million dollars in 10 years, six years ahead of schedule! We even surpassed our goal by $600,000!
The Gamma Alpha Chapter & St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
At Texas A&M University, the Gamma Alpha Chapter is one of the largest fundraising Tri Delta chapters in the country. Since the Fall of 2004, the Gamma Alpha Chapter has raised $270,989.62 for the patients at St. Jude! In 2007, the chapter won the St. Jude Collegiate Award for Most Creative Side Event for establishing the annual Gameday viewing party. In the 2009-2010 school year, we were ranked the number one fundraising chapter in the nation with $84,696.50 raised!
